A collaborative project for members of NSCSS
A wiki is an easy-to-use Web site that makes it profoundly easy to collaborate on projects. This wiki has been made public to allow anyone to read it, while still restricting editing to those who know the wiki's password. Edits are done in plain text and don't require learning fancy or complex codes like HTML. Just click Edit page and start typing! It's also easy to create new pages and make links to pages you've already made.
Passwords, available to NSCSS members, will be emailed on a regular interval. Regular users are encouraged to create a permanent “PBwiki Identity” by visiting http://my.pbwiki.com. These users won't be affected by periodic password changes.

Dr. Kays is a nationally recognized soil scientist, groundwater scientist, and landscape architect with specialty in sustainable environmental design, soil, groundwater, and surficial hydrologic science and is responsible for consulting on agricultural, residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional development projects across the United States. Dr. Kays serves as an expert witness in land, soil, and water contamination, development, and redevelopment.
Dr. Kays has served as expert investigator and witness in three inverse condemnation cases before the U.S. Federal Court of Claims involving claims of environmental damages in Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, and South Dakota. He has served as expert investigator and witness in seven other federal condemnation cases and has served as expert witness in twenty-eight cases before state and administrative courts in North Carolina and Virginia. He has used specialized forensic methods dealing with wetlands, land drainage, shallow groundwater tables, sedimentation, stormwater, flooding, soil contamination, groundwater contamination, and construction issues.
Dr. Kays has directed environmental and landscape restoration construction projects for Central Park Conservancy, Inc., New York Parks and Recreation Department, North Carolina Arboretum, and US Fish & Wildlife Service. The Central Park project won an
Honor Award for Design of Great Lawn and Belvedere Lake Restoration by American Society of Landscape Architects in 1998. The project won the Best of 1998 Site/Landscaping Project by F.W. Dodge New York Construction News & McGraw-Hill.
Dr. Kays has directed land development projects in Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. He has been responsible for planning, design, environmental investigations, environmental mitigation, wastewater, stormwater, and infrastructure design for a variety of coastal and mountain resorts, suburban and urban development and redevelopment projects.
Dr. Kays has been involved in the design of ten sustainable buildings and landscapes.
One of the projects, the Heritage Middle School in Wake Forest, NC received the Nation’s Top Exemplary Sustainable Building of 2005 Award, by Sustainable Building Industry Council (SBIC). The North Guilford Middle and High School Campus, near Greensboro, NC is being completed in 2007 and incorporates so many green sustainable technologies, that it will likely become one of the greenest building projects in the United States. A number of the green technologies were specially design for the first time for the Northern Guilford project.
Dr. Kays serves on the Board of Directors for National Society of Consulting Soil Scientists. He serves on the Board of Directors for Consulting Soil Scientist of Carolinas, Inc and was their past President. He has previously served on Board of Directors for Greater Raleigh Wake County Chamber of Commerce, North Carolina Agriculture Foundation, Inc., North Carolina Health Services Regulatory Commission, and Board of Trustees for North Carolina Engineers for Better Government.
